New Commissioner - Sharron Miller

New Board Member of the Virginia Commission for the Arts

Governor Timothy Kaine has appointed Sharron Kitchen Miller of Newport News to the board of the Virginia Commission for the Arts, filling the unexpired term of Maria Laqueur of Weems.

Sharron Kitchen Miller is a native of Newport News and is currently the Director of the Parents Council and a major gifts officer at Christopher Newport University.  A retired pediatric administrator, community leader, activist and volunteer, Sharron has served on the Newport News Department of Public Works Citizens Advisory Board, the USS Newport News Liaison Committee, is a certified Virginia Master Gardener and past president of the Newport News Master Gardener’s Association and a longtime volunteer fundraiser for the Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Red Cross.  A strong advocate for children and the arts, Sharron has worked to fund organizations that expose young people to the visual and performing arts.

The board of the Virginia Commission for the Arts approves all grants awarded by the Commission.   All applicants to the Commission for funding are encouraged to include the board members of the Commission on their mailing lists and send them regular announcements about upcoming arts activities.   Click here for the mailing addresses of the Commissioners.
